I have never been one to be completely caught up in the fashion world. i was always a little behind, kind of casual- surfer style type. Well now that i have been living in hawaii for 3 years I am so out of fashion it is pathetic. and no offense to all of my hawaii friends... you all look great, but you can't help me in the cold weather department. And we all know that mumu's and mulletts are a plenty around here. i need some serious help- and i am not kidding- please all of you help me.
i am headed to utah in less that 2 weeks, for 2 months. What do I wear? My 2 dear friends that recently visited Brooke and Rose both suggested a good pair of "skinny jeans" (huh?) and some "baby doll" tops (know what they are talking about at least, but don't have any). So I bought a pair of skinny jeans- um what shoes do you wear with skinny jeans. I am not kidding here. as a stay at home mom in hawaii i wear shorts, t-shirts, skirts, and flip flops. the only "real" shoes i have purchased since living here are some church shoes that i bought at payless- yes i just admitted to that- and sneakers. i really don't know what shoes you wear with skinny jeans (or any other jeans for that matter)on the icy cold roads of utah while carrying a kid around. And to go with that- what you wear besides a pair of casual shorts and t- shirt.
I am truely calling out for help to all of you friends out there. send me to website, give me ideas... help me. I don't want to be a total misfit- and i can finally buy a few new items. all of my regular clothes are pre- braden, which makes it 4 winters ago that i wore anything besides maternity. I think you are all getting my pathetic state here! love you all in advance for the help.

I posted on your blog last night but then decided that leaving 3 lines wasn’t enough. So here are a few more that aren’t just about your adorable pictures. First off you are so sweet. Thank you for posting on my blog and keeping our families in touch. I love reading about what you are up to. I can’t wait until my kids can go to the zoo. I can’t wait until they actually acknowledge my presence! Anyhow I better get back to them but I just wanted to say that I think that you are great.
Also check yourheartout.com I read it daily. I get most of my fashion ideas from them. It's Lane's little sister Ali's blog.
Mol-
Not that I'm terribly fashion forward, but skinny jeans= ballet flats. You can do sneaker-type flats too if they're the Mary Jane lookin' ones.
Another suggestion: Wait until you get to Utah and head to Steve and Barry's to get some cheap warm stuff. My sis in law told me they opened one there and the stuff Sarah Jessica designs is pretty dang cute.
What are you doing in Utah for 2 months?
Yes wait till you go to Utah. Steve & Barry's has good cheap stuff and once and awhile I find good stuff at forever twenty one that is at the Gateway and they have great prices for great stuff. Have fun shopping and two months in UTah WOw.
I loved this post because it made me feel more normal. I still have stuff in my closet from high school and how long ago was that!!!! And thanks to living in Hawaii I still wear just flip flops "slippers." Even in the rain and freezing weather. They are just so easy. I seriously miss the easy fashion in Hawaii.
oh and sorry I couldn't help you with any fashion ideas. Read previous post about me still wearing stuff from high school.
I don't know Molls- I think you're good with mumus and mullets. Seriously, mullets are coming back. My 3 year old is sporting one right now and we're working on Kara's. My advice? Call Melissa. She is my fashon consultant. Can't wait to see you. -Your mom's stopping by my place on Wednesday. Also, my parents and sister went to your ward last week but didn't get to talk to you because you disappeared!
Molls...you are so funny! You have always been stylish and cute so you have nothing to worry about. Although I do hear ya that you might need some new winter cloths. I also say wait until you get out here - there is so much good stuff. Also- for your skinny jeans along with cute flats you could invest in some cute boots. They will be the best thing to wear when you are chasing your kids around in the snow. A couple of DSW's have opened out here at that is a great place to find some cute boots. I can't wait to see you!!!
Skinny jeans go with ballet flats. Although I am not one to say anything. I am wearing the same shoes I bought our first year in DC from Target and I will not wear skinny jeans. I am all about the wide leg.
everyone is saying ballet flats... i think i am too short for the ballet flat?! my legs will look 2 inches long! won't they?
PS: Are you going to be updating your blog during that two month period? Or at least will you be checking your emails? I don't know what I will do without my Molly that entire time. :)
I'm with you Molls. Since moving to California I've pretty much only worn two pairs of shoes. My flip flops and then my Crocs (while I've been pregnant with big swollen feet). So that's it. I have one pair of Rocket Dog boots that I bought a few years ago when we were in Utah and that's what I wear when we go back in the winter. I had the hardest time packing when we went for Christmas because I honestly did not have 10 days worth of warm stuff. I had to do laundry half way through and repeat everything. I was so happy to get back to my t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops. Have fun Molls! My kids loved the snow and skiing. I bet Braden will too!
Smalls, normally I'd just stay out of a conversation like this but I couldn't help but think of when I returned from my mission (in '99) and you were the one to slap me in the face and tell me take off the acid-washed jeans and get something called "cargo pants." You took me "post-mission" shopping and got me ready for college & dating... the sad thing is that I am literally still wearing those same clothes we bought on that shopping trip almost 10 years later. Seriously, I'm not kidding. But it doesn't matter in Oregon because no one ever leaves their house because of all the damn rain. My advice, get some cargo pants they've served me well.
Molls: Funny post. I would just get a good old pair of sweats from K-mart, seriously. Just worry about keeping warm. We'll be inside changing diaps, playing with kids, and chatting. No need to be hip. However, I am finally into the skinny jean look - but over the holiday my sister and I were watching a Chip & Pepper (http://chipandpepper.com/womens_denim1.html?engine=adwords!10219&keyword=%28chip+and+pepper+jeans%29&match_type=) special about jeans and they said skinny jeans are out! Who has the $$$ to keep up with this stuff anyway...stick to sweats. hee hee. Can't wait to have you home for 2 months!
fashion shmashion. who has time to keep up. if you have a pair of stirup pants, hold on to them. they just might come back like all the other totally 80s stuff floating around. you will look fabulous in anything. don't worry, there won't be a runway in slc. go for whatever is comfortable and feels like you. i personally feel like a frog in skinny jeans, so that was a no for me. i do like them on other people though. ballet flats are awesome no matter your height, because you can chase kids without breaking an ankle. just stick with basics. i hope we cross paths when you come to town!
Yeah...good luck with all of that. I am pretty much a jeans and sweatshirt kind of person! I hope that you will call when you are in town-it would be fun to catch up!
Dear Ratface:
Zappos.com for shoes or DSW when you get to Utah. We have that here in NY and I {heart} that place. They have great boots and flats!
For clothing/fashion ideas, you can check out: forever21.com, urbanoutfitters.com, gap.com, http://www.hm.com/us/#presspic2008.
And NEVER underestimate the goodness you can find at Target or Old Navy.
Love you lots - sorry I won't catch you while you're in the mainland!
Molly,

love you lots!
I agree with the ballet flats, a good pair of heels when you go out and a pair of comfy boots that go over your jeans can be great for cold weather. Also, I love my wide leg jeans too. Might want to grab a pair; they are everywhere. I've heard great things about Steve and Barry's. And, you are so cute that it really doesn't matter. Remember, you'll be the only girl in Utah with a tan (that isnt' orange!)
